Bower Center Crawfish Festival!!

Yesterday Steve and I headed into Bedford for the Annual Crawdad Festival at the Bower Center's Wharton Garden. We left just a little early so we would have enough time to stop by the new restaurant 309. Their back room overlooks the Wharton Garden so we sat and sipped on a nice Pinot Noir and spoke with the owner Peggy. As we saw
the crowds gathering all we had to do is go out the back door and hand in our tickets!
Before we left Peggy gave us a sample of some freshly brewed Sangria...it is something new they're offering and is sure to be a hit! The owner of the foundation, John Bower,
really knows how to throw a party. Thousands of live Crawdads were flown in from Mississippi along with the, Sydeco Craze. It took only minutes to step up to a table
loaded with boiled crawfish, corn and potatos. We had a great time talking with folks,
some who had different techniques for extracting these little treats from their shells. We lucked out with a native Louisianan stepped up to our table and gave us a
quick lesson...When we had our fill of crawdads, there was also plenty of Gumbo, Etoufee, and Red Rice and Beans to sample...and plenty cold beer and sweet tea to wash it all down with. We had a great time and Steve even said it reminded him of the
seafood festival back in our old stompin grounds. Where we live is about half way to everything but not quite close anything...a pitfall of living out on the rural route. But yesterday we actually ran into friends and some folks from the writers club and
it was a good feeling to be part of such a great fund raiser.
