'THE HELP'

During the past couple weeks we have been on the road. I'm sure we covered better than a thousand miles so needless to say there was enough down time to get a book read. I chose a book called The Help by Kathryn Stockett which was highly recommended. I was hooked after reading the first five pages. The movie, which is based on the book, premiers in a few weeks or so. I can't ever remember laughing aloud so many times while reading yet was struck by the evil truths of racism and civil rights. Riveting and pivotal events that were a part of the violent civil rights movement. Well, this is a wrapped right around it and it wraps you around it too - through the lives of a few courageous maids and one woman who sees them as more than just 'THE HELP' ...It's the early 60's and Skeeter returns to her home in Jackson, MS. having just
graduated from college. Her mother would love nothing more than to find a man, fall in love,
and get married. But Skeeter has other plans. She sets out to fulfill her dream of becoming a published writer. However Skeeter's return home quickly becomes bittersweet when she learns her dearest friend and confidant has moved away. To complicate matters, she had also been the family's maid for decades! Now she was gone and no one was talking! While on her search for the truth about her friend Skeeter struggles to break down her own concrete barriers that will
establish her as a writer. In doing she so faces many truths about herself, her life, and her friends. So that's the outline of the story. My suggestion? Before going to the movies to see this, take the time to 'Read It' first...This is a wonderfully funny, and heart wrenching story. I guarantee... you will laugh...maybe even aloud! (I guess I should state that this is solely my personal opinion. (SO...here is my 10 second disclaimer - this is only my opinion;) This is
definately one of those books you want to read first before seeing the movie. Hey, look at it
like this...if you read it, you'll probably love it, and if the movie is as good as the book you will
have had the pleasure of its company twice!! If it isn't...at least you still read a good book! :)
